A silver lining

Our car was totaled - so what! We got a good price for it from our insurance company; and, we are getting a nicer car to replace it - and, it's RED (I can't believe it, I was able to talk my wife into the red one). I don't know why I'm so excited about this, I'll hardly ever get to drive it; but, still, it's RED!

Our dryer died - so what! It's fixed now, and it seems to be working a lot better than it was before.

The condensation drain on our air conditioner was clogged necessitating a service call (and a thinner wallet) - so what! We've been having this problem all summer with tiny gnats in our kitchen and haven't been able to figure out where they are breeding. Since the A/C's been fixed, the gnat population has dropped significantly - I think we found it.

I like guys - so what! Well, truth be told, I really like guys; but, that doesn't mean I can't like girls too (even if I don't find them as attractive as guys). I mean, my mother was a girl, my sisters are girls, my wife is a girl, my daughters are girls, my granddaughters are girls - and I love them all. Girls are soft and squishy, and they generally smell a lot nicer than guys (I still think girls are weird - but I mean that in the nicest way).

My dog pooped on the floor at PetCo - well, I still think it will be a while before I show my face in that store again :(
When dark clouds of trouble hang o're us,
And threaten our peace to destroy,
There is hope smiling brightly before us,
And we know that deliverance is nigh.
We doubt not the Lord nor his goodness,
We've proved him in days that are past.
The wicked who fight against Zion
Will surely be smitten at last.

Life is good! I love it when bad experiences lead to positive outcomes in ways we don't even anticipate. Congrats on seeing the silver lining, even in this gay-thing.

"The sun will come out tomorrow..."

And congrats on the red car!

What?? Not the sweet amber brown car?!! But WHY would you like RED, of all colors? That doesn't visualize as silver to me. (Actually I have a red car, and I named her 'Ruby'. Is that gay?)

And why would you "really like guys?" I mean, girls are so nice and soft and squishy... but then again, so is dog poop. You know, this is getting a little deep, and I'm trying a little too hard to tie all these disparate things together. Does it matter?

Evidently not. "So What?"

The car is red but why not paint it to look like a blue swordfish?

And Gecko, I will never forget you said, "...girls are so nice and soft and squishy... but then again, so is dog poop."

My blog is a free speech zone; however, I just want to publically state that comments are the opinions of the comment author and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the blog owner.

In other words, I only said girls are weird. If any girls take issue with the dog poop thing then you'll have to take it up with geckoman :)

And, geckoman, may the lord have mercy on your soul ...

It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

hahaha

Did you quote that on purpose? A while back I posted a link to a video I had downloaded from the Gay Christian Network. titled "Straight to Heaven", a musical parody of the ex-Gay movement which was performed at a GCN conference earlier this year. One of the songs is "Your Son'll come out tomorrow ..." sung to that same tune.

Your son'll come out, tomorrow
By the time you go to bed, you will know
I'll write it all out, tomorrow
find some PFLAG pamphlets you can borrow
and books to show
"Mom," I will say, "I'm 'that way,' I'm lonely,"
but will you understand?
Or send me away? Oh...
Your son'll come out, tomorrow
so, I've gotta hang on till tomorrow,
come what may
tomorrow, tomorrow,
I'll come out tomorrow
and then you will know I'm ...

That would be cool - but it's RED! If we were getting that hideous amber brown one then I might be tempted ...

So, if I'm driving around wearing a white shirt in my red car - does that make me pink?

Sure, that makes you pink.

Abelard, I don't know what world you live in, but as one who embraces men on a regular basis, I just have to say--mosts men are soft and squishy, too...some of those soft squishy guys have commented here...I'm guessing you're not necessarily the firmest in places...

As for the dog poop analogy, I was just speaking with AtP last night about the gay man's tendency to treat women as convenient distractions, and with disdain. The reverse is true when applied to many gay women's attitudes about men, although I believe both parties would deny it.

My point--this is your blog and your comment section. You can choose the words you use to represent your own feelings. However, you can't predict how others will react to them. In the past eight months I've stopped blog hopping as much in the Queerosphere, because, as a woman, I often feel keenly the disdain behind dialogue aimed at women. I also gave my crown back to The Great -L-. It seems to fit a male drama queen so much better. :)

By the way--no one would describe me as soft and squishy, because I'm not. Perhaps that makes me less of a woman...

Huzzah! I am so glad that you are starting to feel better now. You're great! :)

Samantha, I would never call you or any other person "dog poop." I hope you know I was just playing along with irreverently combining Abelard's ideas for a little giggle. No disdain for women is ever intended. Certainly, I'm as squishy as they come.

As I read your blog regularly, I am impressed and refreshed with the awesome woman you are. No, you are not at all soft and squishy, you get in there and show your true spirit, which is strong and firm and fabulous.
