A gay Jesus film

I received the following email yesterday from my high priests group leader
Corpus Christi....the movie:
The movie Corpus Christi is due to be released this June to August.
I totally agree with the message below.

A disgusting film set to appear in America later this year depicts Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals! As a play, this has already been in theatres for a while. It's called Corpus Christi ' which means 'The Christ Body.' It's revolting mockery of our Lord. But we can make a difference. That's why I am sending this e-mail to you. If you do send this around, we will be able to prevent this film from showing in America and South Africa ..

Let's stand for what we believe in and stop the mockery of Jesus Christ our Savior. Where do we stand as Christians?

At the risk of a bit of inconvenience, I'm forwarding this to all I think would appreciate it too. Please help us prevent such offenses against our Lord. It will take you less than 2 minutes! If you are not interested, and do not have the 2 Minutes it will take to do this , please don't complain when God does not have time for you, because He is far busier than we are.
Hey, it's worth a shot! Apparently, some regions in Europe have already banned the film. All we need is a lot of prayer and a lot of e-mails.

Remember, Jesus said 'Deny Me on earth and I'll deny you before my Father'

In God We Trust
Problem is, according to scopes.com - this is a myth. While there is, evidently, a controversial play by this name - there is no evidence of any plans to turn it into a movie.

Is this what it's come to? The religious right tasted blood with their victory in California. Now, in order to keep the outrage against homosexuals alive, they are inventing issues to unite the forces in the fight against those evil homosexuals? Is the idea to keep their forces riled up so that when a real issue does arise, they are primed and ready?

And what am I supposed to do with this? Should I be supporting my priesthood leader and forward this email to all of my friends? Should I feel guilty about the email that I actually did send - informing him that this is a myth, with a link to the article on snopes.com? He replied to my email admitting that he didn't check it out before sending his email - although, I did note that he replied only to me and made no correction to the remainder of the people on his distribution list.

Why does this make me, a closeted homosexual, feel more isolated from my priesthood quorum? I wonder if he would have sent this if he knew there was a homosexual sitting in his priesthood meeting each Sunday? How would the other priesthood brethren feel if they knew there was a homosexual in their midst? I feel like a pariah - that I should come to church wearing a sign that says "unclean".

That email was terrible to read. And it came along with the traditional guilt trip. Nice. :(

I got that email verbatim a few years ago, as a missionary (I also got a forwarded email about how general conference will be illegal when God isn't allowed to be mentioned on t.v.). And then I hit the delete button as I went through my list of Homestar Runner "deleted" voices. "Buh-Leted! DeLORTED!!" etc.

While I don't think that such censorship could actually happen at a national level in the United States anymore(am I being naive?), I used to work in a movie theater and I have seen local censorship. My boss decided he didn't want Fahrenheit 911 playing in his theater (Bush bashing was much less popular in 2004), so he didn't get it. It cost him a lot of money, as many people drove as many as 100 miles to see it elsewhere.

I guess I just try not to worry too much about some people's corn pone opinions. Yes, it is unfortunate; I wish that all people would think more freely, rather than as a group, but if it hasn't happened in the thousands of years of human history, why should I start to believe in such a change now?

Yeah, I remember getting that email a few years back too. Whenever somebody tells me that they got some tidbit of information from a pass-along email like this I cringe. Which makes me wonder who starts this sort of nonsense.

But I'm sorry that the guy from church was an idiot. Sometimes I wish people would realize how that sort of things hurts those around them.

An excerpt from "The Golden Turkey Awards"

"HIM (1974)

This innovative film, designed exclusively for gay audiences, goes into excruciating detail concerning the erotic career of Jesus Christ. The ads for the film show the face of The Savior (with a cross glistening in one eye)while the headline inquires "Are You Curious about HIS Sexual Life?" Filmmaker Ed D. Louie satisfies that curiosity by showing us that the Son of Man was a voracious homosexual. (After all, why did he spend all that time hanging around with the Apostles?) The central character of the film is actually a young gay male in contemporary America whose sexual obsessions with Jesus helps him to understand the "hidden meaning" of the Gospels."

The thing is, this book claims that one of the terrible films listed within is a hoax... though that "hoax" has spawned into a full fledged IMDB page, but the film is considered "lost"--if it ever existed in the first place...

Bullshit. This is the kind of message that undermines Christ and his infinite atonement, not some mythical movie about gay Jesus and his flaming disciples.

Wuzza... South Africa?

How does one stop films from showing in South Africa?

Wuzza... South Africa?

... and why are we only concerned about it being played in America and South Africa ???

I'm also amused that he says we should take 2 minutes (else risk having Jesus deny us) - but he doesn't really go into what we're supposed to do with those 2 minutes. I assume it is to forward this email to all of my friends - lest Jesus deny them too. But, it doesn't actually state that explicitly.

The email itself isn't what bothers me - we all get this sort of crap all the time. It's that my priesthood leader felt it necessary to warn his flock about this nefarious plan hatched by homosexuals in their quest to take over the world.

Whenever I get an email hoax that I consider anything other than harmless I send a correction (with supporting links) not only to the sender, but also to every address in the "to:" and "cc:" fields. If I'm feeling really ambitious, I even go through and collect all the addresses that are usually scattered through the body of the message from the half-dozen forwards it went through before it got to me.

This is one of the times I would have done that.

What Scott said.

Usually you can find authoritative dispositions of myths and legends like this at www.snopes.com. I usually check that first, and when I find a link there that disproves the story, I send it to the person who sent me the crap e-mail and tell them in polite but blunt words that they are spreading lies and have a duty to e-mail everyone again and retract.

I think you should do that in this case Abe.

You know what I do when I have a friend who does that? I send the correct information to everyone on their list that they sent the original too. Even though it may be annoying at least I get the correct info out.

I check about every email I get on Snopes. I too, send the Truth back to the sender with a lecture about spreding lies, even tho it's passive. A Lie is a Lie. Even when we believe it to be true.
I would send the link and lecture about spreading untruths back to my priesthood leaders...in fact, I have. Many times.
I am sorry this happened to you.
I believe truly that Heavenly Father created Gay people to test out ability to love and love like he does. You must have been one srtong Spirit to come to Earth with the mission you did.
I adore your blog and tho I often am just a lurker, I want you to know that your words are salve...to both gya and straight. I so admire your courage...
Blessed be to both of you.
