My guilty pleasure

[me] Hi, my name is Abelard, and I watch RuPaul's Drag Race

[everyone] Hi Abelard!
Yes, I am man enough to admit that I've been watching RuPaul's Drag Race on Logo. My wife watched the first episode with me; but, she didn't particularly care for it - so, I've been watching the remaining episodes on my own.

Seeing the transformation from boy to woman is just fascinating to watch. And, some of these guys ... er ... girls are downright beautiful when they are in full drag. Don't get me wrong - I don't have any desire to do this myself - but I do think being a Gender Illusionist is a perfectly respectable profession.

This weeks challenge had each the queens making their own Viva Glam screen test. Viva Glam is marketed by M·A·C Cosmetics; and, every cent of the selling price of Viva Glam Lipstick and Lipglass is donated to the M·A·C AIDS Fund to support men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS.

There was an unexpected moving moment at the end of the competition when Ongina learned that she had won this weeks challenge,. You can view the clip here in part 6 of episode 4 of RuPaul's Drag Race

My personal favorite is Nina Flowers (real name is Jorge Florez) who is originally from Puerto Rico.

btw, according to the Drag Queen Name generator, my drag name is:

[drum roll]

Lois Carmen Denominator

Abe, Abe, Abe! That show is ridiculous! Now "Rick and Steve" is another story...

I tried watching Rick & Steve and just couldn't get into it - something about watching a bunch of gay Lego people just doesn't do it for me.

But, I do enjoy watching The Click List: Best In Short Film once in a while - some of those short files are quite good.

Göran and Glen have been watching this faithfully. I watched the first episode or two and, like your wife, lost interest.

It's not that I don't like drag queens... I married one. He's now long retired. We haven't had a "drag bag explosion" in at least a decade or so. But he was "Miss Gay 90's" when we met, and I was his valet at many a drag show, faithfully carrying his bags for him and being ogled by all the other queens. Ah, those were the days...

He actually even performed on stage once with Miss Ru Paul herself.

Who are Göran and Glen cheering on? I'm hoping Nina Flowers wins

I dunno. I'll have to ask and get back to you on that one.

Glen says "Bebe, she's local."

Göran says, "You know I think Bebe should win, although Nina Flores is awesome too." From the former drag queen, that's a compliment.

Oh, and my "drag name," based on the drag name generator, is "Barb Wyre."

But my real drag name, from back in my Radical Faerie days, was "Karen," since the dresses I wore supposedly made me look like Karen Carpenter.
