The votes are in

Well, the votes are in. And it appears that gay Mormon's are a bunch of flaming left wing libertarian pinko commies. (I mean that in the nicest way, of course). Although, I guess that makes me a flaming right wing neoconservative capitalistic pig - at least that's what I feel like next to my gay Mormon buddies (yup, that lone dot in the upper right quadrant is me).

It also means that most gay Mormon's have a lot in common with Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and The Dalai Lama. Where I, on the other hand, am in good company with Angela Merkel (first female chancellor of Germany).

A number of you expressed surprise on your score (that you were further left than you thought you would be). So, perhaps the quiz is slanted that way. Although, I went back and re-took the quiz and answered how I think I would have answered it 5 years ago, and I was more right wing and authoritative back then:
Economic Left/Right: 3.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.92

So, it appears I'm starting to tilt towards the left. A few weeks ago, Heloise expressed concern for my increasingly leftist views. I dismissed it at the time. But, perhaps I wasn't giving her enough credit for her powers of observation.

I must keep repeating -

"I like George W. Bush",
"I support the war on terrorism",
"Fox News is the best!",
"Rush Limbaugh is my hero" ...

Of course, another way to interpret these results is that out of the entire world population, there are only 9 people who read my blog. That's 0.000000134%, which is kind of depressing - I think I need to go eat some chocolate!

BTW, any comments on my new look??? I decided to go with a contrasting colors motif using a shimmering lime background with concord grape headings with a hint of dewberry tossed in.

Oh, and it's not too late to get your vote in. I'll publish an update to this chart if I receive any new data.

it' Texas dude. it'll get you all the time.

to be honest the "questionnaire" was loaded with "hot" words that have multiple meaning for different people. so there is a discrepancy on the "scientific" side of this survey. so the results will be tilted. not so much left or right just not very accurate.

I wont tell you what i think of Rush and Fox news though. in that aspect i am definately a flaming left wing liberatarian pinko commie. :)

another way to interpret the readership level of your blog is in terms of "exlusivity" :)

i like color selection too.

I guess I do live in the other red state. And I happen to live in one of the redder parts. During the last presidential election, there was nary a Kerry sign to be seen.

To be honest, I've always viewed Rush Limbaugh to be an arrogant pompous jackass - who happens to say some things that I agree with.

But, I actually do like George W. Bush. I think he is an honorable person who is in a very difficult situation. (I hope this doesn't get me kicked off of the island.) Maybe I should go lookup the local chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans :)

I think that President Bush is an honorable man... who's not terribly bright and is a pawn of his Neo Conservative, war-mongering handlers.

So it's okay.

Sorry I didn't take the test sooner!

: )

Silus, take it and send your results....Join the pinko horde!

I took a similar test that seemed more scientific and I was still in the Lower-left quadrant...

And honestly, the American liberals really aren't all that liberal.

In Utah I agree with you. The same is true in Texas. However, having grown up in California, I have to say that there are some lunatic fringe liberals in that state. Just visit University of California - Santa Cruz if you don't believe me.

I went back and checked the coordinates of -L-. His were both positive, which means he'd be in the upper right quadrant. So, either you have misplotted him or not plotted him at all, or I'm incorrect and you can tell me to shut up and go back to sleep...

Just trying to tell you that you're in good company!

Maybe I misread it. But, doesn't -L- state as a comment in my previous post?

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.15

I read that as minus 2.15

But, you are correct on the left/right thing - he is right of center.

I am indeed a part of the radical right (with a score of +0.1), but low down in the anarchy section. :-) I struggle, honestly, with how much government should interfere in people's lives because in public health there are so many instances of where one's actions DO inflict potential harm on others. I end up being very wishy washy, and I suppose that's consistent with changing my opinion about things more often than Mitt Romney.

Beck, thanks for considering me "good company". You are nice.

Abelard, I LOVE your new look (but many condolences for your new name). I was going to comment on it the other day, but a friend whose blog I recently complimented said his "new" look was months old and I felt really stupid. So, I didn't want to repeat that fiasco. I'm a big photography and food fan too. I need to explore your blog more.

but many condolences for your new name

My new name, Abelard, was bestowed upon me by Samantha, Queen of the Queerosphere along with Heloise for my wife. These names were further blessed by AtP. Who am I to argue with the Queen and AtP?

I immediately started using Heloise to refer to my wife. However, I only recently accepted the name Abelard for myself. I guess the delay corresponds with the delay in time it took me to accept that I'm gay. Therefore, it seemed fitting that there should also be a delay in my acceptance of my new name in the Mormon Queerosphere.

I suppose I should probably do some research into the lives of Abelard and Heloise. Especially since there was, apparently, a rather unseemly and messy end to their love affair. But, I am a simple man and I trust my friends in the Mormon Queerosphere. Although, now that I think about it, this could end up being the virtual equivalent of a "kick me" sign stuck on the back of my shirt (an experience I am all too familiar with from my youth) :)

Note: I had been thinking along the lines of "Bud" or "Billy Jo Bob" as a name as that would more closely match my simple nature. But, Abelard has a certain mien to it.

My error... I didn't see the minus sign on the previous line. I was just trying to give you some company. We're all in this together, you know!

I kind of like your new name... It's growing on me!

Well, I can't argue with your name if it comes with those supportive credentials, that's for sure. ;-)

Wasn't Abelard, umm, castrated?

Whatever sign someone puts on your back, I'll always sit with you at lunchtime and snigger at the pompous cool kids.

Oh my!!! Perhaps I should inquire of Samantha if there was some secret meaning of bestowing this name on me. Is my castration symbolic of my refusal to engage in certain, er, um, behaviors?

It's kind of hard to snigger when they have you duct taped to your locker :)
